Greater Vancouver is home to more than 70 craft breweries, with approximately 30 located within the city limits. From steam powered brewing traditions to experimental IPAs, Vancouver’s craft beer scene offers something for everyone, whether you’re after a juicy summery peach sour or a chocolatey stout.
Here are five breweries across the Lower Mainland to check out for your next pub crawl.
Strathcona Beer Company
- Location: 895 E Hastings St.
Located in East Vancouver on Hastings Street, Strathcona Beer Company stands as one of the city’s most recognizable breweries. Its red all-caps “Strathcona” sign is named for the Strathcona neighbourhood, Vancouver’s oldest residential neighbourhood. The brewery has two locations, a flagship tap room on Hastings Street and a restaurant (and bottle shop) in North Vancouver. Strathcona currently has eight beers on the menu, including a cherry blossom sour, a lemon mandarin radler, and a “big sexy funk” hazy IPA.

Granville Island Brewing
- Location: 1441 Cartwright St.
Dubbed “Canada’s first microbrewery,” Granville Island Brewing has been concocting delicious craft beers in the same location on Vancouver’s most iconic peninsula since 1984. The brewery offers five beers as part of its main lineup, including a cypress honey lager, a Kitsilano juicy pale ale, and an island lager. Currently, its seasonal lineup includes the False Creek Peach Sour, one of the city’s most popular beers in the summer season.

Steamworks Brewing Company
- Location: 3845 William St.
Founded in 1995, Steamworks Brewing Company, named for the famous steam clock in the Gastown neighbourhood, is the only brewery that still uses steam to fire its kettles. Originally with just one located near Vancouver’s harbourfront, Steamworks has expanded to four locations across the Lower Mainland: a brewery and taproom in Burnaby, the original brewpub in Gastown, a pub in Mount Pleasant, and a pub in North Vancouver. Its main beer lineup consists of two non-alcoholic beers, 11 beers, and seven mix-and-match packs. Currently, Steamworks’ offers over 20 more beers in its seasonal lineup.

Luppolo Brewing
- Location: 1123 Venables St.
Founded by two loving couples, Luppolo Brewing has worked for over a decade to cultivate a brewery in East Vancouver near the Commercial Drive and Chinatown neighbourhoods inspired by the Italian birrificio (which translates to brewery). Luppolo currently has 13 beers on the menu, including a tropical stout, a limoncello sour weisse, and a gose with kelp and black limes.

North Point Brewing
- Location: 266 1st St E
The only brewery on this list originating in North Vancouver, North Point Brewing was founded by three locals who wanted to combine their passions for good beer and good friends. North Point Brewing is located in the ultra-cool shipyards district in Lower Lonsdale next to the quay and offers five beers, plus one non-alcoholic beer as part of its core menu. Currently, the brewery also has seven beers on rotation.
