New York City is encouraging Canadians to visit the city with exclusive discounts this summer, as many continue to boycott U.S. travel.
Those that are still looking to make summer vacation plans might have a chance to score cheaper flights and hotel stays, as NYC looks to attract Canadians south of the border.
With the new NYC’s Northern Neighbour Deal, travellers can take advantage of exclusive 30 per cent discounts at over 85 hotels, attractions, restaurants, cultural spots, and more.
The deal will be available between Aug. 18 and Sept. 7, and reservations open Aug. 4.
Some of the participating hotels include Ace Hotel Brooklyn, Westin New York at Times Square, Renaissance New York Harlem Hotel, and more. Attractions included in the deal are City Cruises, Empire State Building Observation Deck, New York Yankees games, and Broadway shows.
The city’s tourism website states the discount is “a gesture of our appreciation” to Canadians, signalling to travellers they are welcome to the city that never sleeps.
“To our Canadian neighbours: New York City is ready to welcome you,” the website states. “We know travellers are thinking carefully about where and how they spend right now. This summer, we want Canadians to know they are valued, welcomed and very much part of the life of NYC.”

Porter offers cheaper flights
In addition to cheaper attraction entries and hotel stays, Porter Airlines will also be offering 20 per cent discounts for all New York flights this summer.
But those looking to make travel plans need to move quickly, as this discount will only apply to flights booked by Aug. 7, with travel dates through Dec. 15.
Discounts come amid boycott
The discounts come as Canadian trips to the U.S. have significantly declined over the past year.
According to Statistics Canada, Canadians spent $3.3 billion less on visits to the U.S. in 2024 compared to previous years. In addition, the agency registered 25.4 per cent less return border crossings from the U.S. in that period.
This is the deepest and most sustained decline in U.S. border crossings Canada has seen, except for the COVID-19 pandemic and the period following the World Trade Centre terrorist attacks in 2001.
The significant drop comes after many Canadians revealed plans to boycott U.S. travel and products, after President Donald Trump imposed tariffs on Canadian goods and services and made comments about making the country an American state last year.
